When God Has a Plan!
Updated: Aug 3, 2020
Have you ever wondered how your life's journey came to pass? Have you every wondered why God chose to send you down a certain path? Here is my story!
Picture this, a magnet school student that all her life was filled with the notion that education is key. Although I knew education was key, nothing academically thrilled me. There was no subject area that I could genuinely say that I loved. There were some things that made me excited about going to school; dance and music. I was a great dancer, but I was also gifted with the ability to play violin. I had always had a love for music, since kindergarten. Around 7 years of age, I witnessed a young African American girl play the violin at church one Sunday morning and it was something I never forgot. She provoked my desire to learn the violin. I played all through elementary, middle, and high school.
It was my senior year and I wanted to major in dance. I applied for all the major schools with dance programs in the state of Georgia. I had performed poorly on the SAT's so I was rejected from all of them. So, there I was a senior with no acceptance letters to any of my colleges of choice. In my opinion, dance was my only option. What was I supposed to do from here?
I can remember it like it was yesterday. It was just another day at school and recruiters from Alabama A&M University showed up to audition some students for their music program. I had never even heard of Alabama A&M at the time, but I would've been a fool not to audition. I was a senior without a plan. I didn't even have an instrument at school to audition. I borrowed an instrument, went into a practice room and brushed up on one of my latest performance pieces to perform for the recruiters.
There I am in front of the recruiter, nervous and a total wreck. Next thing you know, I had performed, killed it, and had been awarded a scholarship to go to one of the BEST HBCU's in the country. There was one circumstance, I had to major in music. Now don't get me wrong, I loved playing the violin. Did I love the violin enough to major in it? Did I want to become a classical performer? Did I want to become a music educator? It was the farthest thought from my mind. Although it may have been the farthest thing from my mind, but God knew what he was doing. God placed in my spirit to take the education route and major in music education with a string concentration. I had no clue what I was going to do as a music educator, but God knew. I had never had that much love for children, but God knew that I would one day have a heart for children and use the musical and teaching gifts that he gave me to be an impact to thousands of children.
Many times people question what their purpose is in life? Have you really been listening to God? Have you ever sat still and just allowed God to speak and show you what your purpose is? We each have a reason for our existence here on earth. When we walk in our purpose, God will give us EVERYTHING we need to be successful. He will also redirect us from going down roads in which are not in his will. God literally been preparing the table for me. He is giving me all the tools to walk in my purpose. He didn't allow me to get in those dance schools because it wasn't in his will for me to do so. He had already destined for me to be a music educator and specialist. He had already destined for me to become a music performer and touch the lives and hearts of the masses through my music. He even destined for me to still be able to dance through ministry.
Ask God what he has purposed for your life. He will begin to reveal it to you. Jeremiah 29:11 says "For I know the plans I have for you" declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." He already has everything in order for you, as long as you take time, listen to him, and allow him to direct you. He will put things in your spirit and it is up to you to recognize his voice. Ask him to order your steps! He will guide you and I can assure you that he will NEVER leave you!
